German Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media approves Veriff for age verification
Veriff has been approved by the “Kommission für Jugendmedienschutz” (KJM) for age verification - a huge step for our service, specifically in Germany, where Veriff will now be able to help even more companies build trust with their customers.

The Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media, “Kommission für Jugendmedienschutz” (KJM), has given positive assessment ratings to Veriff’s technology for age verification system (AVSs) in telemedia. The concept presented is an overall solution which enables identification by means of an automated process involving the comparison of biometric data.
Veriff provides online identity verification services on behalf of clients where users can prove their identity by taking a photo of their identity document (ID), capturing a selfie image and live video. Veriff’s technology makes sure that the ID is genuine and not fraudulent. A biometric comparison of the photo on the ID with the selfie image or live video is then carried out to ensure the person presenting the identity is the legitimate owner of the document and is physically present during the verification.
According to the "AVS grid" of the KJM (valid since December 2019), a face-to-face check can be dispensed. Instead, identification software can be used comparing the biometric data of the identification document and a photo of the person being identified.
According to the Jugendmedienschutz-Staatsvertrag (JMStV), specific content, which is harmful to minors, may only be distributed via telemedia if the distributor ensures that only adults have access to it. In order to provide legal certainty and planning security, the KJM offers interested companies the opportunity to check whether their concepts for the technical protection of minors in the media meet the legal requirements.
The Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media (KJM) is a body of the state media authorities and an expert committee made up of representatives of the federal and state governments. In Germany, the KJM is the central supervisory body for the protection of minors in private broadcasting and the Internet.
